Proccess Of The Front Cover

This is my final process for my front cover, by adding the smaller image and the barcode it has given the front cover a proper magazine look as it has sub headings as well as smaller images on the cover.

This is the this stage of making my front cover, which has had more text added to it explaining more about what is in the magazine which also gives it a more professional look.

The second stage of creating the magazine front cover is completely different to the original photo. By using a colour boost and inserting the main part of the text which is the Mast Head, Main Article and the sub headings.

This is the original Image I decided to use as my main image on the front cover. It will be changed in many different ways including adding other images, text and intensifying the colour to make it brighter.

Front Cover Mock

I decided to plan my front cover out in this way because it includes everything that a magazine on the market already would contain and has a wide range of things that would help it look like a proper magazine.

The Masthead will take up the top section of the magazine and will be bright, colourful and bold in order to catch peoples attention.

The main image will provide as the background for the magazine and will contain an image of a student working or a student that is smiling and happy which will both tell different stories once i have made my decision on what photo I am going to use.

Other parts on the magazine cover will be things like sub headings, dates and prices as well as other small images dotted around.

Magazine Front Cover Planning

Images: Image I would want to use would be an image of a student that is fairly laid back as I would like the magazine to target the students and not the teachers. The model in the image wouldideally have to be smiling but could have a stressed or upset face depending on the main subject. If the model was smling it would attract more people as they would think it is a happymagazine but using a stressed or upset face could allow students to relate to the magazine with any problems within the magazine.

Masthead : The title would have to be catchy, colourful and bold to catch people's attention. Potential ideas for the name could be:
- WykeLife

- Wyke Chat

- Wyke Social

- Wyke CA

- Wyke Fix

- Wyke Challenge

- Wyke Cut

- Wyke Factor

Text: Text contained on the front cover will be the title as well as subtitles and any other additional information to do with contact details and prices.

Target Audience.

Target audience is one of the main concepts that the makers of magazines have to thing about when writing articles and using images. If there was a magazine that was intended for men and had a picture of lipstick on the front cover, it would be almost certain that every man would look at the front cover and automatically assume it is for women not men. The text would also have to be custom ed for the male target audience being that if it was pink and swirly men would probably turn away from that as well whereas if they saw a picture of a car or a skimpy dressed woman they would know it was for them. The text would also have to be bold and hard edged to attract the right audience as well.

What is target audience?

The target audience is a large group of people that the creators of the magazine intend the magazine to attract, i.e. The heat magazine is used to mainly attract women.

Why is the target audience important?

The target audience is important because it is what allows the magazine to be sold and make money, if the magazine didn't have an intended target audience it would mean they wouldn't be guaranteed to do as well.

Magazine Types

There is a large variation of magazines on the market today that vary from things such as gossip magazines all the way to health magazines. Some magazines on the market today are:
  • Men's Health

  • Heat

  • Kerrang

  • FHM

  • New

  • BBC Good food

  • The big issue

  • Car Sport

  • Vogue

These are just a few if the hundreds of magazines that are on the market today. The genres of the magazins range from things such as gossip to sport. The headings and pictures they use are always dramatic, colourful and bold which is a great way if grabbing potential buyer's attention. The use of famous and well know people in magazines such as Heat, is also a great way of catching people's attention because the reader's want to know whats going on with the famous stars.

Magazine's such as Kerrang are music based magazines which is associated with rock music. The magazine cover will have a big image as well as titles and other text items. The idea of Kerrang magazine is to get insight on new and up coming music as well as bands and information on them. This magazine would probabl be aimed at teenagers around the age of 16 up to the age of 25 years. This magazine is similar to a magazine like heat as it gives the latest gossip and news on bands but the difference is that Kerrang is a great more informative and probably more formal than Heat. http://www.kerrang.com/

The website fits in with the magazine quite well using dark colours which also relates to the idea of heavy metal and rock music.

Magazines like heat are very popular and well known which is a reason why the use adverts on the television to sell the magazine. The popular magazine advert and slogan 'I'm going to London, to buy a heat magazine' is one of the great selling points which has excelled the magazine forward where as Kerrang isn't as popular therefore it is not made as public.
